In a world that increasingly requires English, the demand for English medium education has spawned a number of English medium schools offering classes from nursery upwards. Schools still lack trained and committed teachers not because of the lack of ability, but because of a lacuna in the system. This is no doubt one reason why many youngsters do not find the classroom a place where things that are important to their lives happen.

The result is that large numbers of students from non-English speaking environments studying in English medium schools find it difficult to express themselves with confidence and clarity in any language. And language is necessary to further learning and perhaps intrinsic to human communication.

The need of the day is to provide excellent training and instruction for teachers to hone the child's linguistic skills from early childhood. And for this, it is imperative that teachers are equipped with the right resources for the job. Teacher training is the double development of a double human resource. Firstly, it develops teachers, providing them with right resource material, right attitudes, confidence, knowledge, and ability to offer their best. Secondly, it involves development of the child's own confidence, attitudes, knowledge and ability. For this function, we need competent and committed teachers urgently.
